  • Lennox Lewis knocks out Oliver McCall in Las Vegas, Nevada to become WBC Heavyweight Champion in 1997.
  • Pete Maravich, basketball star of Louisiana State University, scores 69 points against Alabama in 1970. The record stood for 21 years.
  • Beatles arrive in New York in 1964 – the vanguard of the “British Invasion”.
  • Bruce McCandless becomes the first ‘human satellite’ as he orbits the Earth alongside the shuttle Challenger using a rocket pack he designed – 1984.

Look who was born on this day…

Author: John Fioravanti

I'm a retired History teacher (35 years), husband, father of three, grandfather of three. My wife, Anne, and I became business partners in December, 2013, and launched our own publishing company, Fiora Books (http://fiorabooks.com), to publish my books. We have been married since 1973 and hope our joint business venture will be as successful as our marriage.
